Peace bodies formed for Swabi

By Muqaddam Khan

SWABI, July 22: The district government, religious figures and leaders of various political parties on Sunday pledged to use all options to keep the district peaceful in the current tense situation in parts of the NWFP and tribal areas.

Religious figures, jirga members, politicians, district officials and representatives of welfare organisations met in the district nazim’s office to discuss the situation in the NWFP and the tribal areas, especially the recent suicide bombings.

District Nazim Shahram Khan, who presided over the meeting, said Swabi was a peaceful region which was known for its political maturity. He expressed satisfaction over the situation in the district and said all-out efforts would be made to keep the tranquillity intact.

The meeting formed peace committees for the Chota Lahor tehsil, Yar Hussain, Kalu Khan and the Swabi town. Members of the committees will work for maintaining peace in their respective areas.

The committees will also resolve disputes of people. Police will also extend them help in working out peaceful solutions to disputes.

This would reduce the workload of police and an environment of coordination and cooperation would be created between police and people, the meeting hoped.

It is learnt that police have prepared a new security plan for the district and law- enforcement agencies have been put on alert to deal with any kind of situation.
