KARACHI: Safety steps in labs

KARACHI, July 17: Chemical scientists, laboratory staff and students may suffer fatal diseases and biological hazards while working in laboratories without adhering to safety measures.

This was stated by Dr Mohammad Iqbal Choudhry, the acting director of the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, on Tuesday.

Giving a lecture on safe laboratory practices at ICCBS, Dr Choudhry said that scientists and research scholars should take precautionary measures while working in the laboratories as the chemical fumes in the labs might cause fatal diseases, including cancer.

He said that several types of hazardous chemicals were used in the laboratories and as such scientists, technicians and students should not forget to take some important safety measures before start working in the laboratories.
