Discharge from two dams increased

ISLAMABAD, July 3: The Indus River System Authority (Irsa) has enhanced the discharge from two large reservoirs by about 34,000cusecs over and above the provincial requirements. The step, taken on the request of Wapda, is aimed at offsetting the energy shortage in the country, it is learnt.

Informed sources told Dawn on Monday that about 110,000cusecs of water was being released from Tarbela dam against the total provincial requirements of about 80,000cusecs. On Monday, Water and Power Development Authority also placed a fresh request for a 4,000-cusecs increase in discharge from Mangla dam.

The water discharge from Mangla would increase from 18,000cusecs to 22,000cusecs.
