Currency market calm

LONDON, June 28: The dollar and euro were little changed on Thursday in late European trading ahead of a decision on US interest rates by the Federal Reserve, dealers said.

The euro firmed slightly to $1.3465, from $1.3453 late on Wednesday in New York.

The dollar advanced to 123 yen, from 122.86 yen late Wednesday.

All eyes were on the US Federal Reserve's monetary policy meeting which wraps up later Thursday, dealers said.

The US central bank is expected to leave US interest rates on hold at 5.25pc but the market will look for clues in the Fed's accompanying statement about the outlook for US borrowing costs.

“The outcome of today's meeting is not in question as the Fed is widely expected to leave policy on hold at 5.25pc,” Calyon anlayst Mitul Kotecha said.

The US central bank has consistently highlighted inflation dangers while playing down the risks of an economic slump.
