Militants flex muscles in ‘peaceful area’

By Zulfiqar Ali

PESHAWAR, June 11: Militants, or the Taliban, surfaced in the Mohmand Agency and flexed their muscles in its Mian Mandi area. The region is considered to be a comparatively peaceful part of Fata.

Local people said about 40 militants carrying assault rifles patrolled in the area for three hours on Sunday, annoying residents.

Sources said despite presence of political authorities and law-enforcement agencies, the militants’ movement in the area adjacent to the restive Bajaur Agency went unnoticed. They said militants were increasing their movement in the area which bordered Afghanistan.
