‘System must ensure easy access to justice’

By our correspondent

MARDAN, June 2: District and sessions Judge Syed Yehya Zahid Gilani has said that the judicial system should be developed on such lines where people have an easy access to justice.

Speaking at an introductory seminar organised by the Access to Justice Programme (AJP) management unit of the ministry of law, justice and human rights in collaboration with the Peshawar High Court, Mr Gilani said that working conditions had improved since the launch of the AJP in the country.

He pointed out that before the launch of the programme working conditions in courts were unsatisfactory.

There was lack of facilities and judges faced problems in performing their duties.

He said under the Access to Justice Programme, judges were provided facilities like courtrooms, computers and accommodation.

Access to Justice Programme’s provincial programme manager Tariq Suhail said that the programme, launched with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank, was the biggest initiative taken ever for judicial reforms in the country.
