ZAGREB, May 25: The fourth day of the 49th World Table Tennis Championships here on Thursday saw previous silver medallists Timo Boll and Christian Suss of Germany being knocked out in the quarter-finals.

The third-seeded pair, which won silver in Shanghai, lost to Taiwan's Chang Yen-Shu and Chiang Peng-Lung in six games.

They will now face China's Wang Hao and Wang Liqin.

In the women's singles competition, two unseeded Romanian players showed they are a force to be reckoned with. Daniela Dodean beat Japanese tenth seed Ai Fukuhara in only four games, 12-10, 11-9, 11-8, 11-9.

Her compatriot Elizabeta Samara won against another Japanese, 16th seeded Sayaka Hirano 9-11, 6-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-6, 11-8.

As expected in the men singles competition, the first ten seeds secured their place in the next round.
