Lawyers condemn sedition case

Published May 23, 2007

HYDERABAD, May 22: Lawyers staged a token hunger strike outside the Civil Courts building after boycotting courts proceedings for an hour on Tuesday in support of ‘non-functional’ Chief Justice of Pakistan and against registration of a case of sedition against lawyers’ leaders.

High Court Bar Association President Qazi Abdul Sattar and General Secretary Allah Bachayo Soomro condemned registration of a case of sedition against lawyers’ leaders including Sindh Bar Council vice-president Amin Lakhani, Hyderabad High Court Bar Association president Abdul Sattar Kazi and Hyderabad District Bar Association president Abdul Aziz Sheikh. They said that such repressive measures could not break their spirit as they were prepared to sacrifice their lives for the independence of judiciary.

They said that they would bury the monster of dictatorship once and for all to make Pakistan an independent and sovereign state and rid the masses of abject poverty.
