KARACHI, May 3: A high-level meeting with Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan in chair reviewed the current electricity supply situation in Karachi and other parts of the province.
The meeting held on Thursday was attended by Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Federal Water and Power Minister Liaquat Ali Jatoi, Sindh Chief Secretary Shakeel Durrani and others.
The federal minister informed the meeting about the situation of power supply from the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) and highlighted new plans for increasing power generation.
The meeting emphasised on conservation of water and power besides taking measures to cater needs of the citizens. In this regard, it was decided to launch an awareness drive under a coordinated plan.
The meeting was told that under the present situation, stopping wastage of water and power and conservation culture needed to be promoted.
It also considered taking steps to expedite power generation through coal deposits in Thar. It was also agreed to establish a company for this purpose with provincial level efforts.
The Sindh governor and the chief minister stressed the need to ensure supply of required power from the Wapda to the KESC.
It was also decided in the meeting to take all possible measures to enhance power generation.—PPI
