LAHORE, April 29: Fancied chestnut colt Lucifer won the April Cup during the 35th Lahore Day/Night Winter Meeting at the floodlit Racecourse on Sunday.

With the staging of the April Cup, the nine-month long Lahore winter races concluded. It was the sixth and the last race of the day which was contested over 1400 metres.

Owned by Lahore Racecourse chairman Tariq Aziz and rode by M. Atif, the winner overshadowed five rivals. He beat Harry Can Run by three lengths.

Desert Queen and Don't Follow completed the frame among six starters.

A race earlier, Syed Pervaiz Hussain Shah's English mare Grecianette won the Farewell Cup, contested over 1000 metres.

Under jockey Shahid Rehman, the mare beat English filly Miss Thailand by about three lengths in 58 3/5 seconds.

Sun Stroke and Catch All completed the frame among six runners which were left after withdrawal of Brummell and Lucky Winner from the race.

Jockey Shahid Rehman brought home three winners — Born To Run, Poly Cat and Grecianette — in first, third and the fifth race.

Trainer Haji Ghulam Sarwar sent out three winners — River Edge, Poly Cat and Lucifer — while Sohail Aziz two — Born To Run and Grecianette.

Four favourites obliged punters in a card of six.
