KARACHI, April 29: Public fancy filly Friendly Fire on Sunday came out with yet another shining performance when she sprinted to glory to make it two wins on the trot in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse.

Ridden by M. Nasir, she has bettered her previous timings and margin of victory. As predicted, she won as she pleased by posting a facile 14 lengths win over mare Sonia in one min 3 1/5 sec. She had won the preceding race by 10 lengths in one min 3 3/5 sec.

Colt Khyber secured third place while mare Sweet Grandy completed the frame after filly Queen Of Mirwa was withdrawn.

With two exceptions, six favourites obliged the punters in a card of eight races.

Rider Ghulam Shabbir II presented owner Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara with a winner when he galloped mare Butter Fly to convincing victory to claim feature event.

Finishing six lengths behind was colt Moon Raker while another three-and-a-half length away was filly Gwenivare.

Shabbir had a satisfying day as he ended with a treble. His other winners were odds on favourite filly Lady Conqueror in the supporting event and second favourite mare Moment To Moment II in the fourth race.

Lady Conqueror outpaced Arab Hi Arab by four lengths while Moment To Moment II beat favourite filly by half-a-length. The latter belonged to lady owner Kamwal Amir Sultan.

Another lady owner Zubaida Rehmat did not lagged behind when M. Khizer powered filly Janu Love Inshu to five lengths victory over Check Mate.

Mohammad Essa, a former champion rider, piloted bay colt Shah Sawar to three lengths victory over Gul Bano to pick up opener while owner-cum-trainer Allah Judrio’s Chistian The Great picked up spoils in the next race.

Unfancied Sharp Cat won the sixth race which was marred by stampede resulting in injuries to favourite mare Sweet Touch, its rider Arshad and two other riders Essa (Foolish Pleasure) and Zaki Zakir (Killer Instincts).

Running in a pack of 14 contestants, Sweet Touch was heading home and during a stampede one furlong from finishing post fell on the ground. She was later destroyed.

Following injuries Arshad and Essa were latter withdrawn from Patricia and Butter Fly in the last two races.
