Punjab govt advises CJ to travel to Lahore by air
ISLAMABAD, April 29: The Punjab government has asked the registrar of the Supreme Court that in wake of the security situation, the Chief Justice should consider travelling to Lahore via air, rather than using the GT Road.
In a letter to the registrar on Sunday, the government said the security situation was hazardous and the provincial government had been informed by reliable sources about the likelihood of terrorist, subversive activities in the days to come.
The secretary, government of Punjab, further stated in his letter it has been informed that highly-placed government and public functionaries were likely to be targets of terrorist attacks.
In view of this, the likelihood of any untoward incident could not be ruled out. While the Punjab government will make all possible arrangements to ensure foolproof security to the honourable Chief Justice, it would be advisable that as a matter of reasonable caution, the honourable CJ may consider travelling by air from Islamabad to Lahore.
The matter had been brought to the notice of the registrar with the request to place it before the Acting Chief Justice, of the Supreme Court, to bring the advice to the notice of the honourable Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.—Online
