Lucifer looks set to wrap up winter races on high note

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, April 28: Three-year-old chestnut colt Lucifer looks set to win the April Cup during the 35th Lahore Day/Night Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

With the staging of the April Cup, the nine-month long Lahore Winter Meetings conclude. It will be the sixth and the last race of the day which will be contested over 1400 metres.

Lucifer, owned by Lahore Race Club (LRC) chairman Tariq Aziz, has so far won one race and placed four times in his five outings.

This time, his close rivals could be Harry Can Run and Desert Queen.

The Farewell Cup has been composed of class-I, II and III Pakistani and imported thoroughbreds and will be contested over sprinting distance of 1000 metres.

On form and past performance, English filly Miss Thailand enjoys an edge over her rivals.

Owned by Malik Hamid Ali Noon and trained by Haji Fazal Hadi, Miss Thailand from English sire Grand Lodge out-of-Miss Amanpuri has won two races and placed second and third twice in her six outings.

She is a faster filly and equally good on handicap. Fillies Sun Stroke and Grecianette, and English colt Brummell will be main challengers to Miss Thailand in this fifth race of the day.

Owned by Raja Khushbakht-ur-Rehman, three-year-old filly Jung Frau will be on the trot to make it two in-a-row. The filly from Grandy Pinz out-of-Joy Show had registered a facile victory on April 1.

Her close rivals could be Mama Mia and King Of Murad. This will be the fourth race of the day, contested over 1200 metres.

Shoaib Tariq-owned three-year-old filly Poly Cat who had been beaten by Honey Gal on April 22 should make amends this time and win the third race.
