Arms seized, 5 arrested

TAXILA, April 26: Police have foiled a bid to smuggle arms from NWFP to Punjab and arrested five persons.

Addressing a Press conference here at Taxila Police station on Thursday sub-divisional police officer Ch Shahid Yousaf said on a tip off a special team headed by SHO Malik Arif was constituted to check public transport at Margalla picket.

He said during search of a Rawalpindi-bound passenger bus coming from Peshawar 13 rifles including 11 of 12 bore and 2 of 44 bore, 2 pistols of 30 bore and two thousand rounds were recovered and police arrested Firdous Khan, Umar Jan, Haji Abar, Bannus Khan and Anwar Shah.

The police officer said the arrested persons were working as carrier for a gang of inter-provincial arms smugglers who smuggle arms from NWFP tribal areas to Rawalpindi, Lahore and other parts of Punjab.

He said that he would recommend the name of the officials for cash prize and commendation certificate.
