RAWALPINDI, April 26: Regional Police Officer Nasir Khan Durrani said on Thursday that “Intelligence-led policing” would be introduced and a crime analysis wing would be set up in Rawalpindi Region to curb crime.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Nasir Khan Durrani, who recently assumed the charge of the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi (the region comprising Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal districts) was addressing his first press conference here at his office on Thursday.

In line with High Court’s orders, the Punjab government has appointed field police officers in accordance with Police Order 2002. Under the new plan, the Rawalpindi division has been divided into two regions one comprising Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal (Region III) while Rawalpindi district the other one.

Under the new plan, the Rawalpindi district is headed by City Police Officer (CPO) who would be directly under the command of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab.

Besides the Superintendent of Police Attock Inayat ullah Farooqui, DSP Fetahjhang Chaudhry Mohammad Aslam, inspector Riaz Hussain and Tahir Mehmood and other police officials were also present on the occasion.

RPO Nasir Khan Durrani who vowed to continue good work done by his predecessor, but he reiterated to solve public problems on priority.

“Our priority would be to resolve public problems and provide them sense of security,” RPO Nasir Durrani said.

He said that “intelligence-led policing” would be started in Rawalpindi region to curb the crime and to get rid of sense of security prevailing among the people.

The RPO said that a crime analysis wing would analyse how criminals are bailed out from the court of law. After having been bailed out, they always create problems for the police.

To a question, RPO Nasir Khan Durrani said, that the prevailing confusion regarding the appointments of CPO and RPO would be clear after sometime as it was a new experience.

The RPO revealed that the police have traced a five-member gang of highway robbers who had been striking in Attock and Chakwal for quite sometime and used to hijack trucks loaded with cement and flour bags.

A police raiding party led by SP Inayatullah Farooqui was formed to check the hijacking of trucks and dumper which led to the recovery of looted goods valuing Rs10,748,000 and arrested the culprits. Due to effective policing, there had been a considerable drop in the vehicle lifting crime in Rawalpindi and Islamabad as Attock Khurd was a shortest possible route for kidnappers, drug traffickers and vehicle lifters.

“It is an extremely important point and needed monitoring as well as strict checking,” RPO Durrani said.
