Bara remains peaceful

By Ibrahim Shinwari

LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), April 24: Bara remained peaceful on Tuesday after two days of violent protests by activists of an extremist group.

Law-enforcement personnel remained off the road and Bara bazaar and educational instructions opened after two days.

However, Lashkar-i-Islam supporters established a protest camp outside the residence of their rival Pir Saifur Rehman. Talking to newsmen, Lashkar leader Misri Khan said their protest would continue till the acceptance of their demands.

The Lashkar demands handing over of the residence of Pir Saifur Rehman, release of Mufti Munir Shakir and removal of the Khasadar force from a Lashkar centre in Nala-Malikdin Khel.

Officials of the political administration said they were ready to tackle any untoward incident.

Bara tehsildar Roshan Khan told Dawn that they would not succumb to pressure tactics of the Lashkar and denied that any promise was made to the group regarding the fulfillment of their demands.

Meanwhile, MNA from Bara Mulana Khalilur Rehman has announced the boycott of National Assembly proceedings till the fulfillment of Lashkar’s demands.
