Vishan Gir suffers successive defeats

KARACHI, April 24: Second seed Vishan Gir continued to be at the receiving end as he was blanked 4-0 by Rambel Gul on the second day of the 11th Style Snooker Championship at Karachi Club on Tuesday.

Vishan, who last month made it to the maiden final of national championship before losing 3-6 to Naveen Perwani, suffered a 1-4 defeat at the hands of Qasim Kamani in the opener on Monday.

Following loss of 51-58, 13-80, 54-63, 32-77 to Rambel, he is now out of contention for a place in knockout from group ‘B’.

Another surprise was in store for fourth seed Mohammad Shahid who was stunned 4-2 by Shehram Changezi in group ‘D’. The latter was home 75-7, 84-9, 28-62, 72-34, 12-74, 102-13.

Top seed and reigning national champion Naveen Perwani kept his winning run intact by inflicting 4-0 defeat on Mohammad Riaz, the scores being 59-5, 52-17, 81-0, 69-55.

Third seed Abu Saim struggled to overcome fighting Mohammad Asif 4-3. Final scores were 54-49, 40-65, 103-7, 41-72, 52-53, 11-67, 81-31. He also compiled a fluent break of 71 in the third and 47 in the seventh frame.

Saleh Mohammad who has staged a return to the circuit after a long layoff registered first win beating Shah Khan 4-1. He had lost to Abu Saim in the opener.

Veteran Mohammad Yousuf showed his brilliance when he was home 51-3, 77-0, 82-0, 73-15 against Farrukh Usman.
