Wajid scores century in each innings

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, April 24: Wajid Ali scored century in each innings as the Pentangular Cup match between Habib Bank and NWFP-Balochistan ended in a tame draw at the NBP Sports Complex here on Tuesday.

Wajid, who carried his bat for 131 in the first innings, hit 118 as the combined regional side reached 336 for seven after set an unreachable target of 590 on the final day of the four-day fixture.

Wajid’s 197-ball contained 15 fours and one six.

The match also brought down curtains on an unusually long domestic cricket season which began in June 2006.

At the conclusion, Pakistan chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed, who was the chief guest at the ceremony, distributed prizes.

Habib Bank skipper Shahid Afridi collected the winners’ prize-money of Rs600,000 while the runner-up award of Rs300,000 went to Punjab for whom coach Azam Khan received the purse.

Individual awards, worth Rs25,000 each, were given to Habib Bank’s pair of Imran Farhat (best batsman for scoring 502 runs) and Abdur Rehman (best bowler with 27 wickets).

KRL skipper Mohammad Wasim was declared the tournament’s best fielder with seven catches while NWFP-Balochistan’s Ahmed Said claimed the best wicket-keeper’s prize for making 14 dismissals (13 catches and one stumping).
