KARACHI: Dealers of CNG-kits asked to keep sales data

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, April 24: The Anti-Car Lifting Cell of the police has asked all CNG-kit dealers to issue receipts to their customers mentioning all relevant details about the kits so as to help check the increasing incidents of vehicle thefts for CNG-kits.

According to an ACLC press release, its chief SSP Sanaullah Abbasi has advised people to note down the serial number of the CNG kits and gas cylinders installed in their vehicles. He said many vehicles were stolen only for CNG-kits.

The ACLC police also issued some advice to CNG-kit dealers. The dealers have been asked to note down names, father's names and complete addresses and mobile phone or PTCL numbers of customers while selling or installing CNG-kits. Besides proper record of registration, chassis and engine numbers; make and model of vehicles should also be maintained and protected.

It also asked people to mention serial number of gas cylinders on the receipts and the same should be mentioned in an FIR, in case of vehicle theft.

The ACLC further instructed the dealers to inscribe vehicle registration number on the cylinder and ask their clients to produce the purchase receipt of CNG-kit while replacing the old one.

The dealers are also directed to maintain records in case of fresh installations and replacements or even after repairs.

According to the ACLC, 26 per cent of the total incidents of car-lifting are perpetrated to steal CNG-kits, which means every fourth car is stolen for the removal of CNG-kits.

The idea to put a strict check on dealers and shopkeepers dealing in conversion of petrol cars into CNG ones, was not a new one but was half-heartedly exercised by former chiefs of the ACLC.
