Black Girl favourite to win feature event today
KARACHI, April 21: Black Girl, a four-year-old dark bay filly, who has shown consistent form in the current calendar year, is likely to rule the feature event in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
With one exception on March 18, the filly from the stables of Abdul Hafeez II, has won one race besides obtaining three second and a third position.
Drawn in a field of seven contestants in the five furlongs concluding event, she is likely to cross the finishing post ahead of opponents. Her likely challengers are Lucky Friend and Gwenivare.
A card of seven races has been drawn for the day with first race starting at 2pm.
Four-year-old bay colt The Concord is fancied to reign supreme in the supporting event which has a strong field of 18 aspirants.
Arab Hi Arab and Lady Conqueror may pose threat to The Concord in his task.
The Concord’s stable-mate mare Sweet Touch is tipped to come out with flying colours in top division of class VII to make it two-in-a-row. She has registered a facile three-and-a-half lengths victory over Be Jamalo in the last run under rider Zulfiqar Ali.
She may be chased by Killer Instincts and Sharp Cat for the following two places.
Baap Re Baap, a five-year-old bay horse, is expected to repeat his winning feat by picking up the fourth race. He has to overcome Rebecca and Khyber. Filly, Queen Of Mirwa, if tried, may bring an element of surprise.
The opener should end in a blaze of glory for six-year-old bay horse Charlie.
Three-year-old bay filly Friendly Fire who has been centre of discussion among race-goers since last fortnight is again our fancy in the next race.
Mare Meri Paidagiree should make amends to pick up spoils in the third race. Filly Little Girl is allowed to run on merit may upset the applecart.
Meanwhile, it is hoped that sanity prevails at the Racecourse after last week’s disturbances and races will be held on merit.
