By Nisar Ahmad Khan

MANSEHRA, April 21: Displaced people of the Jabba tent village called off their hunger strike after the NWFP government withdrew the deadline of April 30, to vacate tent villages in quake-affected areas of the province. The government also restored the supply of ration to the displaced people living in the tent village.

The NWFP government had set the April 30 deadline to vacate three tent villages including Siren, Kashtara and Jabba in the quake zone of the province.

Some 573 displaced families of Jabba refused to vacate the tent village and went on hunger strike on Thursday.

Mansehra DCO Munir Azam along with MNA Sardar Shahjahain Yousaf, District Nazim Sardar Yousaf and Tehsil Nazim Balakot visited the hunger strike camp and informed them about the NWFP government’s decision to withhold the vacating of the tent villages.

He told the inhabitants that each displaced family which was shifted from the quake-hit area would be paid Rs75,000 and five Marla land first and then they would be asked to vacate the tent village.

He said that after April 30, the administration of the Jabba tent village would be handed over to the custodian committee for the rights of the Jabba, who would look after the affairs of the tent village.
