BAHAWALNAGAR, April 21: Four outlaws and two policemen were killed in two encounters on Saturday.

In the first encounter occurred early morning near Chak 6-SP, Pakpattan district, a Madrissa police party went to recover a kidnapped man. Arshad, Akhtar Machi, Binyamin and Farooq Machi, who were wanted by the Bahawalnagar police in a number of dacoity, robbery and other crimes, opened fire on police and killed Head Constable Javed and injured SHO Aslam Malik. They escaped on motorcycles.

A Bahawalnagar district police squad under the supervision of investigation SP started chasing the accused. They received information in the afternoon that the accused were hiding in McLeod Ganj police area.

Police surrounded the area and after a three-hour encounter shot all of them dead. An Elite Force constable, Niaz Joyia, was also killed. Meanwhile, funeral prayers for Javed were offered at the Police Lines here.
