PTTF names squad for Croatia event

KARACHI, April 19: The Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF) has named a six-member team for the 2007 Liebherr World Table tennis Championships (individual event) being held at Zargeb, Croatia, from May 21 to 27.

The team which includes three men and as many women is Ahmed Hussain, Yasir Iqbal Bhatti, Abdul Rahim, Ghalia Khursheed, Sadia Falaksher and Ayesha Khan.

The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has nominated Pakistan’s international umpire Saleem Ahmed as technical official for the world meet. He has recently supervised matches at the Doha Asian Games also.

The significant thing is that the list doesn’t include any Indian technical official despite the fact that they have a strong base of the game.

Upon return, Ghalia and Sadia will join another Pakistan team that is to proceed to Jaipur, India, to feature in 17th Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships slated from May 30 to June 5.

The two teams will travel to India through Wagah border separately. The men’s will leave on May 28 while the women’s the next day.

Saleem Abbas, Asim Qureshi, Kashif Razzak, Syed Owais Hasan (men), Ghalia Khursheed, Sadia Falaksher, Sadia Yasin, Ayesha Iqbal (women).
