KARACHI, April 19: The Lyari Task Force was officially disbanded on Thursday and its personnel put at the disposal of the city police chief.
Acting Sindh Inspector-General Niaz Ahmed Siddiqui told Dawn the LTF had seized to operate.
“Since the purpose of its formation has largely been achieved, there was no rationale for its continuing to exist,” Mr Siddiqui said.
It was the murder of Rasool Buksh Brohi in Gadap that caused the top leadership of the LTF to end up in jail. The LTF was said to have arrested notorious gangster Rehman Dakait, whose arrest was never officially acknowledged by the government.
