RAWALPINDI, April 18: The Anti-terrorism court here on Wednesday handed down death sentence on two persons, life imprisonment on their accomplice and released two others in a kidnapping for ransom case.

Judge Malik Safdar Hussain sentenced to death Hikmat Shah and Daud Ibrahim, while awarded life imprisonment to Shahid Ali. The court released two other accused in the case - Yasir Ali and Sohail Qadir.

According to the prosecution, the gang had kidnapped Kamran Mehmood, an estate agent of Chaklala Scheme III, and kept him in a house at Afzal Town in the jurisdiction of the Airport police. The kidnappers demanded a huge ransom from the victim’s family on August 14, 2006.

The police, however, recovered the kidnapped victim on September 8, 2006 and arrested the five persons.
