CHITRAL, April 17: Water supply has been restored to the avalanche-hit village of Washich through plastic pipes and the power transmission lines have also been repaired.
Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) Regional Coordinator Saleem Shah told Dawn that the avalanche had destroyed the pipelines and the population of the area had been facing acute shortage of water.
He said people of the area had been forced to get drinking water by melting snow, which was hygienically unsafe.
He said that more than 40 people had died when the avalanche hit the village on the night of April 1 and swept away 36 houses.
He said a temporary arrangement had been made to restore water and electric supply to the village and a comprehensive scheme would be chalked out soon to solve the problem.
He said electric supply to the village would be restored after the restoration of high-power transmission lines from the Reshun hydel power station. He said the SRSP had spent Rs500,000 for restoring the services in the village.
