Post offices to be computerised by June

ISLAMABAD, April 17: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Communication was told on Tuesday that all general post offices (GPOs) will be computerised by June 2007.

According to a press release, Director-General Pakistan Post Arshad Khan informed the committee that out of the 85 general post offices, 25 have been computerised while computerisation of the remaining GPOs would be completed soon.

Mr Khan said the military pension system at the Pakistan Post has been computerised in major cites including Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Sargodha and Lahore, and is being extended to 30 more GPOs, covering 80 per cent of total military pensions.

The Postal Service has introduced modernised delivery system to reduce the delivery time. Moreover, mail and delivery arrangements are being taken to ensure prompt delivery at the doorstep of the customers by using modern means of communications, he added.
