KARACHI, April 16: Four officials of the Federal Investigation Agency, including a sub-inspector, were booked and arrested on Monday following the escape of seven suspects from the lock-ups of the FIA’s Passport Circle.

Officials said seven of the 57 suspects kept in the lock-up were found missing on Monday morning. They said that duty officer SI Mehboob Alam Channa and constables Rub Nawaz, Agha and Zahid were booked and arrested under section-225 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The officials said all seven suspects were deported from Dubai and booked in two different FIRs for overstaying in the Gulf state. They said five of them, Mohammed Arshad son of Lal Din, Nasir Khan son of Fazal Hadi, Mohammed Tariq son of Allah Wasaya, Imdad Hussain son of Fateh Mohammed and Ali Hasan were booked in FIR No. 433/2007 and Ghulam Akbar son of Mohammed Usman and Mohammed son of Haji Noor Mohammed were booked in FIR No. 434/2007.

Newly posted Additional Director of the Passport Circle Sultan Ali Khawaja told Dawn that an extreme action had been taken against the FIA officials following the incident. He said the suspects apparently escaped after breaking open the ceiling of the bathroom.
