KARACHI: Man shot dead by bandits

KARACHI, April 16: A man was shot dead near his Paposh Nagar home when he put up resistance to bandits here on Monday. Police said that Mohammad Tahir, 40, was taken at gunpoint by two bandits who ordered him to surrender his mobile phone and belongings. As Tahir resisted the bandits, they shot him and escaped with the loot. Tahir was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

ACCIDENT: A motorcyclist in his twenties died in a hit-and-run accident near Drigh Road Railway Station on Sharea Faisal here on Monday.

Police said that the motorcyclist, identified as Mohammad Arshad, 28, was hit by an unknown vehicle. He was shifted to a hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police failed to trace the vehicle responsible for the fatal accident.

ARRESTS: The Anti-Dacoity and Robbery Cell (ADRC) arrested two alleged robbers who also confessed to having killed two activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

According to a press release, issued by the ADRC, Rao Shehzad alias Raja and Mohammad Asif alias Kawwa were arrested near telephone exchange in the Preedy Street police limits.

Ten stolen cellphones and weapons were seized from the suspects. The police claimed that the suspects confessed to having committed various robberies and killing two activists of the MQM.

Apart from house robberies, 16,938 people have been deprived of their cellular phones and belongings since January this year, of them 6,652 were looted at gunpoint.
