RAWALPINDI, April 15: Kidney diseases in Pakistan have increased to an alarming proportion due to the negligence of healthcare providers.

This was stated by Dr Saeed Akhtar during a visit to the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) here on Sunday.

He termed diabetes and blood pressure silent killers and said the tendency of not getting them properly checked and adulteration in food items had a major role in affecting kidneys.

Dr Akhtar threw light on different kidney related diseases and their treatment. He said there was a need to create awareness among the people about the diseases so that they could get them treated at initial stage and avoid a greater health hazard. He said poverty and disease together were not less than a tragedy and his organization provides treatment to the poor without putting any kind of burden on them.

The doctor said that certain machines, vital for kidney treatment, could not be purchased because of high prices. He presented a detailed review of dialysis, kidney transplant and other related diseases, and showed a video film of some of his patients.
