ABBOTTABAD, April 13: The World Health Organization, with the financial assistance of the American Foundation, has established 20 basic health centres in pre-fabricated structures in earthquake-hit districts of AJK and NWFP. Out of these 20 rural health centres, eight have been set up in the NWFP and the rest in Azad Kashmir.

An official ceremony in this connection was held in the Battagram district on Friday and provincial health secretary Dr Abdul Samad received documents from officials of the WHO. The ceremony was attended by officials of the World Health Organization, health department and local administration.

Speaking on the occasion, WHO officials said that till now at least 35 basic health units fully equipped with medical machinery and equipment had been handed over to AJK and NWFP governments.

Giving details, he said the newly-constructed basic health units comprised 11 rooms which include an administration block, reception, waiting rooms, an OPD, a minor operation theatre, an X-Ray room and an ambulance.
