ATTOCK, April 13: Dr Inamullah Khan, who had been missing for the last 40 days, reached his home safely late Thursday night. Child specialist Dr Inam, who went missing from outside the District Headquarters Hospital, Attock, on March 2, reached his residence at People’s Colony, ending the anguish suffered by his 80-year-old father, children and other family members.

Talking to reporters, Dr Inamullah claimed that he was kidnapped by personnel of a sensitive agency on suspicion of having links with Al-Qaeda and being involved in extremist activities.

Dr Inam said he was shifted to an interrogation cell in Islamabad and was subjected to severe mental torture in the initial days of investigation. However, he was not physically tortured.

He said during the interrogation he denied having links with any organisation and told the investigators that he had just treated war victims during the US attack on Afghanistan and provided medical services to them on voluntary basis. He said this act of his was the demand of his profession.

Dr Inam said he had also assured the investigators that as a Muslim, he condemned acts of terrorism and religious extremism and believed in serving humanity.

After being satisfied, the security agency personnel dropped him near Faizabad area in Rawalpindi. However, before being released, he was told to keep a low profile and not involve himself with the media.

Dr Inam condemned the incident and asked the government to purge the country of crimes and focus its attention in maintaining law and order rather than harassing innocent people.

Meanwhile, Dr Inam, his father Haji Khursheed, brothers Dr Attaullah and Dr Ayub and other family members thanked the doctors and human rights activists, for highlighting the issue and supporting them during the ordeal.
