KARACHI, April 13: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal said that the railways had been paid Rs2.5 million for the construction of an underpass at Wireless Gate to facilitate the residents of Shah Faisal Colony.

He said that the city government was spending Rs10 million on the construction of roads in Shah Faisal Town to improve the condition of road network.

The nazim stated this during a meeting with MNA Iqbal Ahmed Khan, MPA Abbas Jaffery and Shah Faisal Town Nazim Mohammed Imran at his office on Friday.

The delegation discussed the problems of the town with the city nazim.

Mr Kamal said that the city government was spending Rs16 billion for the restoration of infrastructure of water and sewerage systems.

He said that besides laying new water and sewerage lines in all parts of the city and shifting of utility services, infrastructure was also being laid in areas which lacked these facilities for the last 30-40 years.

The city nazim pointed out that since its development, Gulistan-i-Jauhar was faced with water shortage and residents of big apartments were constrained to buy water from tankers.

Now new lines are being laid there and they will start receiving water in two months which will be sufficient to meet their requirements for the next 50 years, he added.

Pointing out that the city government is focusing on Gulistan-i-Jauhar, the city nazim said that a flyover would be constructed at Jauhar Mor.

He referred to the construction of bridge connecting Shah Faisal and Korangi.

Mr Kamal said the city government was carrying out uplift activities in all parts of the city without any discrimination.

The city nazim said that more flyovers were being constructed while machinery worth Rs720 million had been provided for cleaning of major roads and garbage lifting.
