Asad Amanat Ali laid to rest

LAHORE, April 11: Noted singer Asad Amanat Ali was laid to rest in Mominpura graveyard on Wednesday. His body reached Lahore from London at around 8:45am. The late singer’s brother Shafqat, son Sikander Khan and other family members received the body. The widow and daughter of Asad came with the body in the same flight.

A large number of people gathered at the Karim Park residence of Asad Amanat Ali.

Prominent people present at his home included singer Saira Naseem, Humera Channa and Rehana Akhtar, guitarist Sajjad Taffu and PTV Lahore general-manager Farrukh Bashir.

People from all walks of life attended the funeral, but there were very a few people from the circle of musicians, singers and film industry.

Almost all his friends and family member had eyes brimmed with tears.

Islam Shah, a retired senior radio producer sharing his memories with Dawn about the late singer said that Asad’s grandfather Ustad Akhtar Hussian used to teach him strictly and often took Asad to Radio as well on concerts so that he could learn more.

He said that Asad was a singer having a strong background of music and he kept his father’s name alive.

Shafqat Ali, brother of Asad Amanat Ali, told Dawn that his qul will be held at 4pm on Friday at his residence.
