QUETTA, April 10: Leaders and activists of the Pakistan Workers Federation held a demonstration on Monday in protest against the suspension of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, military operation in Balochistan and sacking of employees.
The demonstration turned into a public meeting at the Liaquat Park where PWF secretary-general Khurshid Ahmed, Sindh region president Latif Nizami, Balochistan region secretary Ramzan Achakzai, NWFP region vice-president Haji Abdul Latif, Abdul Salam Baloch and Mohammad Hanif addressed the gathering.
They said the PWF would continue its struggle for the rights of the working class and added that the government had failed to resolve the problems faced by the public.
They urged President Musharraf not to take ‘unwise advice’ from his advisers regarding the suspension of the Chief Justice of Pakistan and review the decision in the larger national interest.
The representatives of the labour union said the government had failed to address the issues of unprecedented price-hike, unemployment and insecurity in the province.
They pointed out that without giving proper representation to the working class in the assemblies, the country could not progress and would remain in the grip of political and economic crisis. They demanded of the government to accept the charter of demands of the labour organisations.
