KARACHI: Rushdi’s death anniversary

KARACHI, April 10: The fans of famous singer late Ahmed Rushdi will observe his 24th death anniversary today (Wednesday).

Rushdi shot to fame soon after he started his singing career in 1954 when he sang the epic song ‘Bunder Road say Keamari meri chali hai ghora gari baboo hojana footpath per” for Radio Pakistan Karachi.

In a career, spanning 29 years he sang more than 5,000 songs, ghazals and geets. His first song for a film was for movie ‘Karnama’ in 1955 and the last for ‘Hero’ in 1983. Most of his songs were picturised on late Waheed Murad.

He died on April 11, 1983, a year after doctors advised him not to sing due to heart disease and various other ailments.—Staff Reporter
