KARACHI: Workshop on children in conflict


KARACHI, April 10: A training workshop was held for police officers on Children in conflict with the Law in respect to UNCRC at ADRC (CIA Center) Saddar. The objective was to provide greater protection for children in conflict with the law (CCL).

The ADIG Establishment and ADRC Incharge Dr Sana Ullah Abbasi speaking on the occasion said the workshop will create awareness among police officials and staff so they can play a role under the Juvenile Justice System 2000.

He said there is a dire need for capacity building of law enforcement agencies according to international standards so that they may serve better.

He said the workshop seeks to build bridges and cement relationships. It is forward looking, establishing good will and developing social consolidated in new learning, this in turn will be turned into protocols at the police station level, and thence models that can be replicated elsewhere.

Editor-in-Chief, Financial Post, Qudsia Kadri said such workshops should be conducted constantly and there should be a monitoring mechanism for the protection of rights of the child.
