Bandit disguised as Taliban killed

By Our Correspondent

KOHAT, April 9: One of four bandits were killed by police and another was arrested in an encounter in Karak district on Monday evening. The District Police Officer said the four armed men, disguised as Taliban, had looted a van on Bannu road taking away at least Rs12,5000. Police sealed all routes after getting information about the incident and intercepted them at Latambar, 30 miles from Karak city in the south.

One bandit was arrested while others ran away and entered a populated area. Hand-grenades were hurled at the police party and the ensuing exchange of fire continued for about half an hour in which a bandit was killed. Two of them however managed to escape.

A police operation was continuing in the area for the arrest of the two.

Police said the dacoits hailed from Miran Shah, the headquarters of North Waziristan Agency.

Many police officers and newsmen disputed with the DPO stance that the men were Taliban impostors and said the arrested persons were Taliban and had entered Karak with intentions of terrorism.
