KARACHI, April 9: Contrary to claims of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation, power consumers across the city suffered due to prolonged power suspensions on Sunday. People from different areas said water was also not supplied to their localities due to load-shedding.
A KESC source said that due to snapping of the Lalazar KCR conductor, power supply to many parts of the city was suspended. But a KESC spokesman said he did not have any knowledge about this.
The spokesman said that load-shedding was being observed group-wise during peak hours and at night. He said WAPDA was supplying 450 out of 650 megawatts to KESC and 60 MW electricity was stopped due to a fault in KANUPP. He said efforts were being made to get the required power supply from WAPDA.
A complainant from PECHS Block 6 said power supply to the area remained suspended at 9am and was restored at 11am. He said it was again suspended at 12.15pm and was not restored till 7pm. Another complainant from the area said that due to load-shedding, water was also not supplied to the residents.
Complaints were also received from Chanesar Goth, Hill Park area, Masoom Shah Colony, Allama Iqbal Colony, Liaquat Ashraf Colony, and Mehmoodabad.
Complainants from Empress Market, Lines Area, M.A. Jinnah Road and Saddar said power supply played hide and seek the whole day. They said there was difference in the words and deeds of KESC officials regarding the timings of load-shedding. Businessmen said they were unable to run their businesses after evening.
Residents of Raja Tanveer Colony and Toori Bangash Colony said power supply to the localities was suspended at 10.30am and restored at 12.30pm. They said electricity was again suspended at 3pm and not restored till 7.30pm.
A complainant from Federal B Area Block 17 said suspension of power to the locality was a routine matter. He said even in the sizzling heat electricity was suspended with short intervals. He said KESC was non-serious about serving consumers, otherwise it would have not repeated its mistakes of last year.
A complainant from DHA said power supply to the area was suspended thrice during the day and remained suspended for hours.
Complainants from Gulshan-i-Iqbal Block-14 and Journalists Society said power supply to the localities was repeatedly suspended with short intervals. They said load-shedding made people’s lives miserable, adding that mainly those residing in flats were facing water shortage due to power suspensions.
Complaints were also recieved from Federal B Area Block 12, Nazimabad Block 4 and Garden’s Maneckji Street.
