QUETTA, April 7: Protest rallies were held in Harnai town on Saturday in protest against the proposed merger of Sanjavi tehsil with the Harnai tehsil to create a new district.Activists of the JUI-F, PMAP and the ANP took out demonstrations in Harnai.

Nazims and councillors belonging to the Jamait Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl), Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and Awami National Party led the protesters.

Traders and shopkeepers observed complete strike in the town.

Protesters vowed not to allow the government to go ahead with the plan which, they said, would create problems for residents of Harnai.

They said that if the government was really sincere to solve people’s problems then Harnai sub-division should be made district.

They alleged the government wanted to create a new district to protect the interests of a particular group.

They urged the government to review the decision and respect the aspirations of the people of Harnai.
