KARACHI: Rape victim persuaded to end strike

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, April 6: President of Karachi Press Club, Sabihuddin Ghausi and chief of the Lawyers for Human Rights and Legal Aid (LHRLA), Zia Awan, ended the hunger strike of gang-rape victim, Kainat Soomro, and her family members with refreshments outside the KPC.

Kainat, 13, of Dadu district’s Mehar taluka, and her family were protesting for justice outside the KPC for the last 54 days to get justice, said a statement issued by Madadgaar, a subsidiary of LHRLA.

It said after arrest of all the accused in the case the family was persuaded to end their hunger strike. Kainat’s father, Ghulam Nabi Soomro, while ending his hunger strike, appealed to the government to initiate investigation against ‘insincere police officials’ and all those who tried to save the accused.

Mr Awan asked the government to provide speedy justice to Kainat and other victimised women similar to the case of Punjab’s slain minister Zill-e-Huma, who was shot dead.
