KARACHI: SCBA strike call for 13th

By A Reporter

KARACHI, April 4: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has decided to observe a full day strike and boycott of courts on April 13. All bar associations in the country will hold protest meetings and take out processions in their respective areas against the suspension of Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

The executive committee of the Pakistan Bar Council would hold a meeting of the Coordination Committee on Thursday, April 12.

In the meantime the bar associations would continue to observe the token hunger strike and one hour boycott of courts proceedings on daily basis, said a SCBA spokesperson.

The association said “lawyers do not want to condone any act of violence or abuse on the part of anyone but we take serious note of the effort on the part of lawyers association with the Musharraf regime to create divisions within the lawyers’ community.”

The spokesperson said the lawyers were fully united and would continue their struggle till the independence of the judiciary, and the withdrawal of the reference against the CJP. The lawyers’ campaign was peaceful and would continue the SHCBA office bearers said.

The SCBA said impostors dressed up as lawyers were transported by the Punjab government form Lahore, Gujrat and Jhelum which, it said, was a condemnable act on part of the provincial government.

It was said that government attempted to provoke violence, but had failed miserably to weaken lawyers’ unity, adding that the unity was stronger now.

It said the lawyers were in a strong position and would foil all such attempts in the future also.
