Peaceful rally planned

LAHORE, April 2: Lawyers’ bodies said on Monday that they would take out a peaceful protest rally on The Mall today (Tuesday) besides boycotting all court proceedings in the city and elsewhere in Punjab.

Lawyers said the rallies would be part of the ongoing protest campaign against the suspension of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. Around 500 lawyers from Lahore would participate in a protest rally outside the Supreme Court in Islamabad, said Sarfraz Cheema, High Court Bar Association secretary.

General house meetings of the high court bar and the Lahore Bar Association decided that all the representatives of the high court bar would remain in Lahore to lead the protest rally.

However, the high court bar said advocates Syed Manzoor Ali Gillani, Azam Nazir Tarar and Shehram Sarwar Chaudhry would represent the bar in Islamabad.

The meetings decided that a rally would be taken out from Awan-e-Adl and another from the high court. Both rallies would join at GPO Chowk for further march on The Mall.
