KARACHI, April 2: The reconstruction and renovation work on one of the country’s most important thoroughfares — I.I. Chundrigar Road — would be completed in a short span of three to four months against the expected timeframe of one-and-a-half year.

This was stated by City Nazim Mustafa Kamal while talking to newsmen after reviewing the ongoing work on the project here on Monday evening. "We will try to complete this road from Merewether Tower to Shaheen Complex in next three to four months," he informed.

The nazim inspected the pace of work on a section of the I.I. Chundrigar Road, from Tower to Habib Bank Plaza, which had been dug up and closed for vehicular traffic. He said that considering peoples' problems due to the reconstruction of the road, the city government had decided to complete the task at the earliest.

He said that the State Bank of Pakistan had formed a committee comprising representatives of all financial institutions. They managed to collect Rs220million for the construction of the road, while rest of the amount, if any, would be borne by the city government. The estimated cost of the project is Rs210 million.
