10 illegal detainees found in FIA custody

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, March 31: Ten people were recovered from a lockup of the FIA passport circle in Saddar here on Saturday in a raid conducted by a judicial magistrate (South).

The raid was conducted on the order of the district and sessions judge to locate Hasan and Jabar. Besides Hasan and Jabar, eight other people were also found in the FIA custody without registration of any case. The court summoned officials of the FIA passport circle on Monday.

Hasan and Jabar are relatives of Manzar Hussain Mehkri, who approached the district and sessions judge stating that his relatives were arrested by the FIA after they arrived at the Karachi airport via PIA flight PK-732 on March 10. He said FIA officials did not produce them in court despite the lapse of many days.

District and sessions judge Zaheeruddin S. Leghari ordered judicial magistrate Aurangzeb Alamgir to pay a surprise visit to the FIA passport circle’s lockup.

Besides Hasan and Jabar, Mohammad Ashraf, Faiz Mohammad, Maxi Fredrick, Mohammad Miskeen, Bilal, Afzal, Nadeem and Aslam were found in illegal custody of the FIA.

The additional director of the FIA passport circle, Mohammad Malik, expressed ignorance about the raid and said: “To my knowledge, no raid has taken place.”
