Go With The Wind fancied for Queen Elizabeth Cup
LAHORE, March 31: Go With The Wind has an edge over other horses to win the new look Queen Elizabeth Cup in a card of six events at the 31st Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.
The event, a brain child of the Lahore Race Club (LRC) chairman, Tariq Aziz, excluded from the Winter Meetings some year ago, has been reinstituted from this year as a race for class I, II and III local and imported thoroughbreds. It has been sponsored by the UBL.
Four imported and two local thoroughbreds are to line up for the cup named after the British sovereign. On recent performance, Go With The Wind, Grecianette, and Miss Thailand have good chance to win the event, which is the fourth race of the day.
The bay English mare, Grecianette (Night Shift-Alexandria) has an unblemished record of three straight wins during the ongoing winter meetings.
The hardy grand English mare, Go With The Wind (Bertolini-Piccolete) has won two races and placed second twice in her five outings. Grecianette beat her twice as she carried more weight than her in the handicap. Now Grecianette is carrying six pounds more weight, which gives Go With The Wind an edge.
The English bay filly, Miss Thailand is a less experienced competitor. Therefore, Grecianette and Go With The Wind have a good opportunity to bag the top honour. On handicap, racing pundits plumping for the latter, owned by Syed Tasweer Hussain.
But the owner of Grecianette, Syed Pervaiz Hussain Shah has been enjoying a share of good fortune this season, as an owner as well as a co-owner, which puts his mare on a chance too.
A supporting event, Bahria Town Cup, which is the third race of the day and contested over 1600 metres, has eight runners. As colt Charismatic is out of form, two fillies – Wendy Trace and Noor – are in the hunt for the title.
In the opener, Willhewish, Run And Win and Royal Fish look favourite on the basis of recent form and performance to run away with the trophy. The race will start at 2:30pm.
There is a strong possibility for colt River Edge to triumph in the second race. He may be followed by Redouble and Jung Frau.
The fifth race has a big field of 16 acceptors barring last-minute withdrawals. Though placed at 9-1 in the handicap, filly Spiritual Song looks better than her rivals. Ikon and Extravagant may create impediments for her to reach the victory mark.
Stride To Moment, Company and Dashing Paradise seem good among the eleven contestants for the sixth and last race of the day. The distance goes in favour of Stride To Moment.
