KARACHI: Enforcement of ban on plastic bags


KARACHI, March 23: Sindh Minister for Environment and Alternative Energy Dr Saghir Ahmed directed officials concerned to ensure strict implementation of ban on polythene bags .

The minister also urged shopkeepers, traders and consumers to strictly follow the ban so that the environment of the city could be made pleasant.

He was talking to people after Friday prayers in the city. The people apprised the minister about the problems being faced by them.

The minister said that paper and cloth bags should be brought in the market on mass scale to get rid of polythene bags.

He asked people to extend cooperation in bringing an end to the use and sale of plastic bags.

Dr Ahmed said that the ban on polythene bags had been imposed to save sewerage system of the city.

The minister said that the Sindh government had delegated powers of judicial magistrate to the district officer (Revenue) to take action against the violators of the ban.—PPI
