KARACHI: Women on hunger strike

Published March 4, 2007

KARACHI, March 3: Ten women of a family hailing from Kotri on Saturday observed hunger strike outside the Karachi Press Club against the alleged maltreatment of the area police.

“The police implicated one of my brothers in false cases and subjected him to severe torture in custody,” a member of the Sanjrani family told reporters.

She said her brother Shahid Sanjrani was still in the police custody while her father was admitted at a hospital after being allegedly beaten by the area police.

“Two of my four brothers have also left home fearing police persecution,” she said.

She said they had only one school-going brother left with whom they came to Karachi to register their protest.

They were holding placards inscribed with their demands for intervention in the issue.—Staff Reporter
