KARACHI, March 3: The leaders of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) for People’s Rights on Saturday expressed dissatisfaction over police investigations into the alleged gang-rape of Kainat Soomro of Dadu district.

Representatives of different non-governmental organisations addressed a press conference in which they said even though the parliamentary standing committee had not yet released its detailed report about Kainat’s case the investigation officer, Tipu Sultan, had weakened the complainant’s position by issuing statements in the media in favour of the accused.

“We strongly condemn this behaviour of the investigation officer and urge the standing committee for re-investigation of Kainat Soomro case,” Anis Haroon of Aurat Foundation said. She said the standing committee should call the vistim and her representatives at the next meeting so that fair and just assessment could be made based on facts. Nasreen Siddiqui of Women Action Forum and a representative of Shirkat Gah also spoke on the occasion.—Staff Reporter
