Ulema celebrate victory

ISLAMABAD: Wafaqul Madaris (federation of seminaries) and mosque leaders celebrate with sweets what they called their victory in a prolonged standoff with the government on the issue of demolition of mosques the Capital Development Authority said had been built on unauthorised plots of land. An agreement to rebuild the Masjid Ameer Hamza on its original location on the Murree Road was reached on Monday after days of talks between the Wafaq and the local administration. The reconstruction of the mosque was inaugurated by federal Minister for Religious Affairs Ijazul Haque. Reciprocating the government’s ‘gesture’, the armed girls of Madressah Hafsa, who have occupied a children’s library, decided to allow its re-opening to member children. However, the students said they would continue the occupation of the library till all their demands were met.—PPI
